Default Series win for India...

England put on some pressure on Day 4 and took 5 wickets, but in the end it was a comfortable victory.

Winning the toss was a big advantage for the Ranchi surface and England failed demonstrably in their second innings after gaining a significant first innings lead. It was a pitch that was going to get increasingly more difficult to bat on.

Given also, that India had 5 world class players missing, their young players had to step up to the plate, which made the win in these difficult conditions impressive…

Next test starts on Thursday.

In Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala the backdrop is breathtaking, but the weather is unpredictable.

Forecasts suggest a cold start with temperatures dipping to -4°C, and even rain mixed with snow might make an appearance.

The initial days might see rain affecting play, as I understand it.

The temperature is likely to drop to -4°C at night and 1°C during the day.

Turned out to be not that cold. Daytime temps of the order of 14-16 deg C over the duration of the test. Should have suited us.

But, on day 1 of this 5th test, England appear to be down and out already.

No lessons learned, playing Bazball on a spinners wicket. Got to place more value on your wicket, in a 5 day test match. Idiots.

No point in travelling all that way and be away from home, if you're going to play like that…

Default Down and out...

Match has really run away from us on Day 2. India have a first innings lead of 255 with 2 wickets remaining.

Jimmy Anderson critically poised on 699 test wickets. Better make sure that he gets one of the tail enders, as India might not have to bat again.

Great scenery, shame about our cricket.

Still, I expect the local cuisine in the foothills of the Himalaya, washed down with a few beers, will be enjoyable for our lads...

How’s about this for an evocative Indian cricket scene.

It was taken by an amateur photographer called Saqib Majeed.

It won the prestigious Wisden–MCC Cricket Photograph of the Year competition a few years back.

The stunning image of a Muslim boys’ cricket game in the Mughal gardens of Srinagar in Kashmir secured first prize.

Shooting from a vantage point of 35 feet up, Majeed was able to capture the entire game amongst the autumnal colours of the surrounding chinar trees.

At first glance it appears more like a painting you’d see in the Long Room at the MCC than a photograph.

Nice work Saqib.

At least we have a beautiful photo to cheer up the beleaguered England cricket fans.

On Day 3, India win by an overwhelming innings and 64 runs. Test series victory to India 4-1.

Good start to the series for England, but it ended in a whimper. One dimensional batting against world class spin.

Congratulations to Jimmy Anderson. First pace bowler to take 700 test wickets, was achieved by him today...
