The general way UK politics works is the Opposition only need to appear credible to be in power the Party in power has to demonstrate competence to be re-elected .

As it stands the Torys have lost the confidence of the average "person on the Clapham omnibus" that's not saying Labour are wowing them either, but when it comes to the GE based on this and last years local elections and many bi elections the indications are voters have had enough of the current party in power.

A lot hangs on Rwanda and whether or not it works, or is permitted a chance to work by the courts.

Just watched Laura on BBC1

Why the hell didn't the Tories pick a decent candidate in London as opposed to the awful Susan Hall whose speech at the declaration was embarrassing

Paul Scully - one of the panellists - showed that he would have made a much better choice. Julia Lopez has also been mentioned

If they didn't beat Khan they would háve certainly run him closer

And Braverman. It's everyone else's fault than hers.

Scully does at least come across with some humility and would have been a better choice.

But the thing was the Tory candidate did not move the narrative on from Lee Anderson’s slurs of ‘being controlled by the Islamists’ and that he had ‘given the capital away to his mates.’ Lots of junk about ULEZ. Folk forget that the London mayor has a legal responsibility for putting into play a proper clean air strategy. He was also upfront about not delivering enough affordable housing but committed to addressing it.

Tories were negative and just lazily playing the man.

Fact was that Khan’s campaign was positive, got buy-in and won a record third term with the biggest majority since inception. The contest was never close. The Tories who were spreading rumours that Susan Hall was running him close were just pulling our plonkers. Because that's what they do. No sense of self awareness or humility...

At least when JM lost to TB, they had William Hague to make a fist of it going forwards. Braverman's open hostility to Sunak and her rude insulting of Keir Starmer shows what a divisive and destructive character she is.

Those were words used in the run-in. No-one is ever going to say to the world, that it's a slam dunk. They want to make sure that voters turn out. Starmer will be saying the same thing on the eve of the GE, even though we know it will not be close.

I'm talking post Thursday when suddenly the media changed their narrative from favourite to win to too close to call. That did not come from Streeting but rather Tory dark arts...
