Old fashioned poppers abroad?
As far as I can gather from various threads on different boards, the quality of poppers in the UK decreased drastically a few years ago. That also is my experience. This was caused by some legislation by an alleged do-gooder who was able to get e.g. iso-butyl and amyl nitrites banned, as there may be a carcinogenic effect. There may also have been iso-pentyl nitrides as well that were banned, but I didn't pay such close attention as I never thought the names were going to disappear from the market till this all happened. Iso-propyl survived because it wasn't around at the time and came along as a substitute, much in the manner of some of today's more controversial designer drugs.
If the above scenario is largely correct, doesn't that mean that other countries can legitimately sell good old fashioned iso-butyl nitrite (and perhaps others equally as effective)? Was the motivating legislator British and the jurisdiction solely within the UK? I noticed that poppers seem to have disappeared from sex shops in Amsterdam, so they may be even more affected than we are. However what about, e.g., Germany or Spain or Switzerland, or Australia, or anywhere else? Anyone know if such poppers can be acquired there, or elsewhere, if on holiday? For some, the legality of this approach may be subject to scrutiny, but is it possible to acquire these better poppers in such countries? Des. |

For various reasons too complicated to go into (unless you are fan of the "Oub") you may find that Slovakia is the last bastion of decent poppers
Unless they have been threatened with some fate worse than the Euro and forced to toe the line they had not signed up to the convention on drug classification until recently. This doesn't mean that they won't try to sell you a concoction of bleach and hair restorer for $10.00 a bottle...but....hey thats commercial pressure |

Thanks for your clarification Electrocbtslave.
Does that mean that the good stuff isn't available in Switzerland either (it's outside the EU and I once noticed a surprisingly liberal semi-drug shop in a resort there in the past). I also hope to visit Australia in the future - any idea if that enlightened country also only has the modern bad stuff? Best Regards, Des. |

Even after the ban, poppers were available under the counter in many places in Amsterdam. I wonder if they still have some of the old stuff or if it has all been sold off since. It's possible that their sales were so slow.
I have heard from other sources tho that they sell the newer crap. |
