Default G-mail query

Looking for a steer on this. I'm barely computer literate, so I am a bit cautious about what to do here.

My g-mail account, which has bowled along happily for many years, now has a warning notice of "suspicious activity" and I can't log in as normal.

The screen demands I enter a new password. The odd bit is that it doesn't appear to require me to enter my previous password, only a new one.

I'm not sure what to do.

Does anyone have any insight as to whether this is genuine from g-mail or if it is, as I fear, some sort of hack?

Peace & Love
