Default Night out

I’ve just read Taylor Swift tickets go for £180 face value. Standing too.

That’s a lot of £££ for a concert. Top acts charge a fortune now. Modern life, I guess

Bars, good restaurants, theatre, PL games, cinemas etc not cheap either. Some might say it’s a rip off.

So what is an alternative good value night out these days?

A good night out is doing whatever it is you enjoy doing.

No surprise those tickets are £180. Quite reasonable in today’s world.
Off to the theatre in London and maybe a nights stay in a good hotel in the West End. Throw in your supper/dinner and you could have had a bloody good weeks holiday somewhere sunny instead.

But I shall offer some thoughts. If you have not tried it how about ten pin bowling. Always a good laugh.

Yep

A lot of it for me is the right company. Being with people who want to enjoy themselves and not moan or grumble

More than happy to spend the night at Spoons or at a good restaurant or wherever as long as the company is good

As gs says £180 is not all that - heard some stories about how much they are exchanging hands for now. Does make my Springsteen tickets at £90 look reasonable, though!

£180 is not considered much money in this day and age*. If Taylor is to your taste then some fraction of the daily wage is reasonable. Must be, else they couldn’t charge that and still fill the venues.

Agree, a night out is about good easy and relaxed company…as is a good night in (ahem !).

Kind Regards,
Rimmer.

* £180/hr is not an excessive rate for a PD in some areas of the country, so for a 2 hour show £180 is quite reasonable as an entertainment spend.

Slutty mentions it.
A good night out could just as well be a good night in.

Some of my favourite evenings are friends over for dinner. I’m one of those chefs who think they are better than they really are. But I enjoy it so why not.
Love the warm summer evenings. Family, friends or neighbours over for drinks in the garden.
Impromptu gatherings are fantastic.

Stadium gigs and big indoor arena concerts are pretty bland affairs really

Stick your £180 plus booking fee where the sun don’t shine.

Poncey restaurants too. Upgrade your martini with a caviar stuffed olive.

F*** off

Think a lot of folk are rethinking the notion of a night out these days. Rip off chains have been sussed.

Millennials have got the right idea. There’s a lot more fun to be had off the beaten track

Authentic Asian eateries are popping up a lot in my local neighbourhoods.

Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese. Even Mongolian.

Basic in decor. Some feel like someone’s front room. But it works out cheaper than eating in.

So a lot of folk ending up going out for supper twice a week or more.

Pho. Ramen. Hotpots. Love all that stuff.

‘Love the warm summer evenings’ ? Warm ? What the blazes are you talki….

…oh yeah, forgot you live down south.

Those summer evenings of only light drizzle sat outside with the fire pit providing warmth and light as the sun goes down whilst you share a bottle or two of wine and just chat wherever the chat goes are bliss. Someone might light up a smoke, nobody cares.

It is indeed the company which makes the moment. Not everyone gets that.

Kind Regards,
Rimmer.
