Kind Regards,
Rimmer.
More jeopardy on the UK side there. Obviously.

Relying on the business case, Ryanair has around 2,500 weekly landing slots at London Stansted, so I guess the Irish government could get Michael O’ Leary to do the necessary and fly them back.

Another flight of Irish tourists landing at Stansted.

You need to think outside the box, Rimmer...

Soz, but…

The migrants and the Irish high court have judged the UK to not be a ‘safe country’ for illegals who don’t want to go to Rwanda, so having crossed into Ireland they are unlikely to get on a Ryanair when claiming ‘asylum’ in Ireland.

…although being Ryanair they could just as likely end up back in France anyway. Bit of an unlucky-dip flying Ryanair.

Kind Regards,
Rimmer.

Swinney it is then

Too late or too early for Forbes?

Interesting article on her in The Times which generated a lot of hate apparently

Looking like a Swinney coronation.

It’s a strange article in many respects. It is the writer’s opinion that she is totally unfit to be the First Minister of Scotland, yet last year she run Yousaf close in the final voting, taking 48% of the votes in the second round. Nothing much changes in a year with respect to personally held principles, so his Time's opinion is down to political reaction. The SNP looks like a closed shop with Swinney being supported by the present cabinet. Lot of political detritus flying around at the moment.

Kate is very intelligent, a Cambridge University graduate and a Chartered accountant, and was first appointed to ministerial office when she was only 26.

Her academic and professional background would make her excellent at budgets, economics and pragmatic strategy decision making. I expect she’ll get a big job if she supports Swinney and one to watch for the future...

It is an odd one I agree

I picked it up from Fraser Nelson's Twitter. He seemed to be more concerned about the reaction to it. He fundamentally disagrees with the writer but defends his right to say what he did

Forbes - to an extent anyway - may rise or fall dependent on the success (or otherwise) of the SNP going forward

Presumably they think Swinney a safe pair of hands in an election year.

ETA

This is what Nelson said

"@FraserNelson

Odd to see Twittterstorm over this with folk saying 'why did The Times publish' and 'let's report a hate crime'

I disagree with Kenny but he makes his case with trademark eloquence and panache - and speaks for a great many. What's the point of columnists if not to spark debate?"

I like Nelson. I may not agree with quite a lot of his views but he is a fine journalist who does a really good job editing The Spectator

Default Major blow...

Labour has inflicted a major defeat on Rishi Sunak in his own backyard by winning the first York and North Yorkshire mayoral race.

David Skaith, Labour's candidate, beat Tory Keane Duncan for the newly created role by 66,761 votes to 51,967. It will come as blow to Mr Sunak, whose Richmond constituency is in the area, meaning his own constituents elected a Labour mayor.

Happy Days !!! ...

Swinney is (wrongly) seen as a safe pair of hands but he is anything but. He echoes all the idiocy of his predecessors. As The Times also astutely observes…

The union has never looked safer since devolution and the main long term threat would have been from Forbes leading the Nats and applying some pragmatic intelligence to the issue by building the proof for independence rather than chasing a ludicrous and divisive ‘progressive’ agenda to deliberately create tension with Westminster. The sabre rattling though is much more popular with the SNP hardcore and so Swinney will hang on until at least the GE, propped up by the deluded Green Party who will now leverage their balance of power for all it’s worth in the time remaining, knowing how fearful the SNP will be of further turmoil and attention.

Forbes would have been a formidable choice. She advocates for a slower route to independence which relies on building a case by proving that Holyrood can govern Scotland practically with good economic business sense and thereby demonstrably improve the lot for the people, something the SNP have totally failed with thus far. Indeed all Holyrood has done under their ‘leadership’ is prove Scotland is not capable of prospering and self governance with the SNP in charge. The Scottish people have finally seen through the SNP stunts of using independence to divert attention away from their incompetence, and so it will now take decades to build the proof. That and a compliant Westminster which doesn’t need Scottish votes*.

In short, Swinney offers nothing when being the continuity candidate again and so the same mistakes will likely be repeated again.

Which is good for the union, despite what casual observers were prone to lazily assert just months ago…

* Oh, and those hugely over-budget and over-programme new ferries to replace the unreliable ageing stock wouldn’t go amiss. In your own time lads, it’s not like we are in desperate need of good ferry services in the island communities. Much.

The muslim vote appears to be collapsing for Labour across the Midlands and the North, so maybe the same is happening in London combined with the anti-ULEZ sentiment and the catastrophic rise in knife crime.

We have since 1997 imported sectarian politics on mass into our country, which is now not ending well.

Kind Regards,
Rimmer.
