Default Food on the run...

Fast food.

We all have to grab a bite to eat on the run at times.

We’re not talking about enjoying food here, but food as a good healthy short term fuel for our biochemical processes.

What would be preferred ?

McDonald’s

KFC

West Cornwall Pasty Company

Burger King

Taco Bell

Pret a Manger

Other

I find if there is no Pret in sight, then more likely than not a KFC,

You ? …

Haven't got a lot of those choices. I'd go for Pret first if I did.

My food on the run is usually around train travel so it'll be whatever outlets there are at the station

Local one has a Pumpkin - the others I use have Starbucks. Margate has got a good independent but I rarely travel through there

Pret is pretty decent.

Like the New Yorker Rye Roll.

‘Salt beef on*a layer of mustard mayo and gherkins. Topped with pickled cabbage & carrot, rocket and a sprinkle of crispy onions. All served in a barley & rye roll.’

and a Butternut Masala Soup.

‘Rich with coconut cream and chunks of butternut squash, this masala inspired soup is lightly spiced with turmeric, garam masala, cinnamon and cumin with a hint of cayenne pepper. ‘ ...

Tbh

So long since I've been in a Pret that I wouldn't have known what they do these days. Had a look at their online menu and certainly some decent looking options

ISTR their pastries were pretty good.

Whatever takes my fancy.

Which at this very moment for some reason. I fancy a Subway.

But in a couple of hours I’m opening a bottle of red (inexpensive but good) to have with a very nice fillet steak, creamy mash and asparagus.

Forgot about Subway. They're good.

Filet steak, creamy mash and asparagus sounds good. Asparagus pee for the next 24 hours though.

Haven't done a steak in the house for a while. Don't like the grilling or pan frying smell. Almost warm enough to fire up the Kamado Joe. Yep, Spring and Summer and return to being carnivore again...

That is my go-to comfort meal, although I swap the asparagus for roasted tomatoes.

My preference is 30 day dry-aged fillet when I can find it, although of late I have developed a liking for a nice ribeye with all that tasty melting white fat marbling.

Almost never grab 'food on the run' from any of the typical outlets, but I do enjoy an all day breakfast from Morrison's or a motorway service station. Always think a cooked breakfast is quite a tricky meal to do at home so it is a treat when out and about.

Otherwise I like to find a little cafe or tearoom somewhere and take a moment from the day to sit down and eat properly.

Kind Regards,
Rimmer.
